Revenge never tasted so sweet... According to an exciting casting notice, Salt Lake City's Pioneer Theatre Company is holding auditions this November for the first-ever U.S. professional production of Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy's THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO musical.

Marcia Milgrom Dodge will direct, with musical supervision by Kim Scharenberg and musical direction by Michael Sebastian. Featuring music by Wildhorn and book & lyrics by Murphy, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO comes to Utah following sold-out runs abroad. The show will run May 6-21, 2016. Click here for more information.

THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, the musical based on the 1844 novel by Alexandre Dumas, was workshopped in New York City in 2008, with a concept album released in December of that same year. That concept album went platinum. The piece received its World Premiere on March 14, 2009, in the Theater St. Gallen, St. Gallen, Switzerland. The show has been a hit through Europe, Japan, and Korea.

Per press notes, the plot is described as: "On the very day of his wedding to the beautiful Mercedes, young Edmund Dantes is framed by three men, arrested and thrown into the notorious prison Chateau d'If. Befriended by a fellow prisoner, he plots a daring escape, unearths a secret fortune and returns to Marseilles and Paris disguised as the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo, determined to seek vengeance on the men who framed him."

Two-time Tony Award nominee Frank Wildhorn has also written the music for Broadway's JEKYLL & HYDE, BONNIE AND CLYDE, WONDERLAND, DRACULA, THE MUSICAL, THE CIVIL WAR, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL and more. Jack Murphy is a long-time collaborator with Wildhorn. Murphy wrote the lyrics for THE CIVIL WAR, which garnered him a Tony Nomination for Best Score, as well as Broadway's WONDERLAND.

Tony nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge recently directed and choreographed the U.S. tour of RAGTIME. Before that, she helmed and choreographed off-Broadway's SEUSSICAL and RADIO GALLS. She also helped choreograph Broadway's HIGH SOCIETY and created the steps for off-Broadway's THE LOMAN FAMILY PICNIC, THE WAVES, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, ROMANCE IN HARD TIMES, CLOSER THAN EVER, THE PIG'S VALISE, ROMANCE LANGUAGE and LIFE IS NOT A DORIS DAY MOVIE. She also wrote the book, music and lyrics for HATS!
