On Tuesday, June 1, Tony's di Napoli Restaurant in Times Square honored Broadway's LEND ME A TENOR with the "Bartha, LaPaglia, Shalhoub" portrait - the newest addition to their prestigious Broadway Wall of Fame, created by Dan May. Poster copies signed by the stars will be auctioned off at a future event to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Ken Ludwig's LEND ME A TENOR is the recipient of three Tony Award nominations including Best Revival of a Play. Set in the 1930s, LEND ME A TENOR is a screwball comedy that takes place when Tito Merelli, the fiery-tempered and world famous Italian superstar, arrives in Cleveland to make his debut with the local opera and promptly goes missing. As Saunders, the show's presenter, conspires to cover for Tito's absence, placate his hot-blooded wife, and distract his most passionate fans, chaos on a truly operatic level ensues.
Ken Ludwig's comedy LEND ME A TENOR will conclude its limited Broadway engagement on Sunday August 15 at the end of the actors' contracts. An extension through Labor Day is under discussion and subject to the actors' schedules.
LEND ME A TENOR's design and creative team is John Lee Beatty (set designer), Martin Pakledinaz, (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design), and Peter Hylenski (sound design). Patrick Vaccariello is Musical Supervisor.
