Oscar nominee and Broadway actress Karen Black passed away yesterday, Thursday, August 8, at 74 after a two-year battle with cancer. Below, BroadwayWorld remembers the enigmatic stage and screen star.

In March, Black started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her treatment. In the end, her fans contributed around $62,000 in donations.

Black has appeared on Broadway in Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, Keep It In The Family, Happily Never After, The Playroom and Take Her, She's Mine.

Black made her big screen debut in Francis Ford Coppola's You're a Big Boy Now and went on to appear in many films, notably Easy Rider, and Five Easy Pieces, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other credits include The Great Gatsby, Nashville and Hitchcock's final film Family Plot.

Her more recent work has included many independent and horror films. Black's upcoming big screen projects include She Loves Me Not and The Being Experience.
