New York Philharmonic Ensembles Set 32nd Season at Merkin Concert Hall

The 32nd season of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles series, chamber concerts showcasing Musicians from the Orchestra performing classical masterpieces and modern compositions in an intimate setting, will begin on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Merkin Concert Hall.

The opening concert will include Poulenc's Le Bal masqué, sung by The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Eric Owens; David Amram's Trio for Tenor Saxophone, French Horn, and Bassoon; Rachmaninoff's Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor; Handel's Passacaglia in G minor for Violin and Double Bass; and Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 1 in E-flat major, Op.12.

The Ensembles series' fall season continues on Sunday, December 6, 2015, with a concert featuring Bach's Trio Sonata from The Musical Offering, Arensky's String Quartet No. 2, and Brahms's String Sextet No. 1. The third performance of the series, Sunday, January 17, 2016, will feature Martinu's Duo No. 1 for Violin and Cello, H.157; John Sichel's Fishbowl Diaries No. 3; Dvor?a?k's Piano Trio in E minor, Op. 90, Dumky; and Beethoven's Quintet for Piano and Winds.

The 2015-16 New York Philharmonic Ensembles series will continue with three additional performances in the spring on February 14, April 17, and May 29 - all on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m. More information on the 2015-16 season of Ensembles concerts can be found at nyphil.org/ensembles.

Since 1984 the Philharmonic Ensembles series has allowed audiences to experience the artistry of the Philharmonic's virtuosos in an intimate setting. Ensembles concerts are also offered on the Orchestra's international and domestic tours, on separate chamber music tours, and at locations throughout New York City.

Eric Owens is The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence.The New York Philharmonic Ensembles concerts are funded, in part, by the Zubin Mehta Fund for the Orchestra, an endowment fund created to honor the accomplishments of the Philharmonic's former Music Director, Zubin Mehta.
