NEW YORK FESTIVAL OF SONG announces its spring gala, a beloved evening of extraordinary singing and celebration, OVER THE RAINBOW: A GALA EVENING OF Harold Arlen SONG on Monday, April 2 at 7:00PM in Weill Recital Hallat Carnegie Hall, to be followed by supper at the 21 Club, 21 West 52nd Street.

NYFOS artistic director and pianist Steven Blier plays host to a star-studded lineup that will perform songs by beloved American composer Harold Arlen. Special musical guests include the internationally-renowned Metropolitan Opera star Stephanie Blythe; rising operatic soprano Laquita Mitchell, fresh from her New York City Opera appearance in La Traviata; Broadway favorites Mary Testa and Jason Danieley; Obie-winning jazz and Broadway tenor Darius de Haas, whose CD Quiet Please with Steven Blier has garnered rave notices; and legendary jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli.

A celebration to mark the end of another successful season at NYFOS, now 24 years old, the annual spring gala is the major fundraising event for the season; contributions to the event help keep the music playing at NYFOS events all year round. Tickets to the gala are available at multiple donor levels and are available for purchase online at www.nyfos.org/gala or by calling NYFOS at (646) 230-8380 for further information.

New York Festival of Song creates intimate concerts that breathe new life into an art form that is rich and emotionally resonant, yet is too often treated as genteel, intellectual, and predictable. Led by foundersSteven Blier and Michael Barrett, armed with just two pianos, a splendid array of singers, a sense of humor, and a love of words and music—not to mention a knowledge of musical culture savvy enough to find the 19th-century gem that speaks to today’s sensibilities—NYFOS plunders music’s remote precincts to create evenings of the deepest pleasure. At NYFOS concerts, Debussy speaks to doo-wop,Lieder to Latin jazz, Josquin to the just-written.
