LA MAGDALENA Expores Controversial Life of Mary Magdalene

Dan Brown's recent books including the Da Vinci Code aroused the general public's interest in other less considered and less known aspects of Christian history. Inspired by this notion, author Lauren Sleeman wants to enthuse readers on a thought-provoking story that speaks to them and explores the lesser known aspects of women's history. Mary is presented as a member of an early sect called the Theraputeae who understood ancient knowledge and intuitive wisdom. As the story progresses Mary and Jeshua face the challenges of his imminent death, and the journey Mary and her followers must subsequently make as concerns for her safety become paramount. It contains familiar elements of human behaviour such as love, betrayal, joy and jealousy as readers join Mary in her account of the events that took place over two millennia ago, events that could have had a very different outcome.

"La Magdalena" takes a slice of an incredibly significant time in history of the whole of the Western world and imbues it with a breath of fresh air. It is a delightful story which contains sacred mysteries and many aspects with which readers can engage. It takes readers to the heart and soul of Mary Magdalene, not as a subsidiary person in Jesus' life and in history, but as a woman of considerable significance in her own right.

About the Author
Lauren Sleeman was born in Winton, New Zealand in 1956. She has travelled throughout Europe and parts of Asia, and also visited Jordan in the Middle East. All of these ventures including working in both London and Cannes in the south of France provided rich material for the story of Mary Magdalene. Her research for a master's degree in psychotherapy provided the impetus to complete "La Magdalena". She has a 22-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter and currently lives with her husband in Wanaka, New Zealand.
