The stage and screen actress Kate Mulgrew has joined "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe and the Tony Award-winning actor Richard Griffiths ("The History Boys") -- in the cast of Peter Shaffer's Tony Award-winning play EQUUS, coming to Broadway this fall with previews starting previews September 5th prior to opening September 25th at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W. 44 St.), it has been announced.

Ms. Mulgrew -- whose stage credits include her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in the solo play "Tea at Five" and who is best-known for her long-running stint as Captain Janeway on the television series "Star Trek: Voyager" -- will play the role of Hesther Saloman in EQUUS.

Produced by The Shubert Organization, EQUUS is directed by Thea Sharrock and comes to Broadway from London's West End last year, where it starred Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths and received critical praise and played to SRO houses during its 5-month engagement.

Tickets to EQUUS are on sale now by calling Telecharge at 212 239 6200 or by visiting www.Telecharge.com. EQUUS will play a strictly-limited 22-week engagement on Broadway through February 8, 2009.

In EQUUS, psychiatrist Martin Dysart investigates the blinding of six horses, a savage act committed by an unassuming 17-year-old stable boy, Alan Strang, whose family life is rife with bigotry and religious fervor. As Dysart exposes the truths behind the boy's demons, he finds himself face-to-face with his own.

Richard Griffiths portrays Dysart, Daniel Radcliffe portrays Alan Strange, and Kate Mulgrew plays the compassionate public official who begs Dysart to take on the boy's case.

Richard Griffiths won the 2006 Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in THE HISTORY BOYS, and has also appeared in the films "Gandhi," "The French Lieutenant's Woman," "Chariots of Fire," and "The History Boys." He recently completed filming the new Disney movie "Bedtime Stories.'

Mr. Radcliffe and Mr. Griffith appeared together in the "Harry Potter" films in which Radcliffe portrays the films' brilliant young wizard title character while Mr. Griffiths plays his beloved Uncle Vernon Dursley.

Mr. Radcliffe will star again in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (Nov. '08) and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" expected in 2009. His performance in EQUUS was well-received by critics in London who were impressed by the nuance and depth of his role in the play, cast as he was against the boy wonder type of Harry Potter.

This production of EQUUS will be the play's first revival on Broadway since its debut when it won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1975, playing over 1000 performances during its celebrated engagement from 1974 to 1977. Peter Shaffer's other numerous plays include AMADEUS, winner of the Tony Award for Best Play in 1981, and LETTICE AND LOVAGE (1990).

Director Thea Sharrock has directed THE EMPEROR JONES at the National Theatre, HEROES in the West End and in Los Angeles, THE CHAIRS at the Gate Theatre and A VOYAGE ROUND MY FATHER at Donmar Warehouse and Wyndham's Theatre. She has been artistic director at Southwark Playhouse and Gate Theatre.

The production is designed by John Napier, with lighting design by David Hersey; and sound design by Gregory Clarke.

Designer John Napier's many Broadway credits include Les Miserables, SUNSET BOULEVARD, MISS SAIGON, CATS and the original production of EQUUS.

EQUUS was produced in London by David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers.

The Shubert Organization is currently represented on Broadway with the critically-acclaimed new musical PASSING STRANGE at the Belasco Theatre.
