The Laguna Playhouse will welcome local author Robert Hilburn, author of Johnny Cash: The Life, today, January 18, at 1 PM and 6:30 PM.

Hilburn is appearing in conjunction with The Laguna Playhouse production of the musical RING OF FIRE, which features close to 30 of Cash's most well-loved songs. Hilburn will speak about his book, answer questions, and sign books. There is no charge for this event, which is free with the purchase of a ticket to the 2 PM matinee or 7:30 PM evening performance of RING OF FIRE. This event is co-sponsored by Laguna Beach Books.

As music critic for the Los Angeles Times, Hilburn knew Cash well throughout his life. Hilburn was the only music journalist at the legendary Folsom Prison concert in 1968, and he interviewed Cash extensively before Cash's death in 2003. Drawing upon his personal experience with Cash and a trove of never-before seen material from the singer's inner circle, Hilburn gives us a compelling, human portrait of one of the most iconic figures in modern popular culture -- not only a towering figure in country music, but also a seminal influence in rock. About Robert Hilburn:

Robert Hilburn was a music critic and pop music editor for the Los Angeles Times for more than three decades, and has reported extensively on pop music legends, including Elton John, Bono, Michael Jackson, John Lennon, and Johnny Cash.
