International Voices Project 2014 Set for 4/7-29

International Voices Project (IVP) is proud to present the fifth season presenting a series of play readings by playwrights from around the world. The series is presented in collaboration with consulates and cultural institutions throughout Chicago. The 2014 engagement's represented countries include Austria, Norway, Uganda, Sweden, Germany, Canada, Egypt and Chile. The readings take place at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, McVeigh Theatre, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave, April 7 - 29 Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. A reception follows each evening's readings. The International Voices Project is the largest event of its kind in the country and introduces Chicago audiences to some of the most exciting voices on the international theater scene. Presented in collaboration with each country's consulate general and/or cultural institution, the International Voices Project celebrates the voices of international playwrights with eight premiere concert-style readings. A professional cast performs each play to allow audiencemembers' imaginations create the world of the play. After each reading, there will be a post-performance discussion with the cast and audience, followed by a reception.

The International Voices Project recognizes the extraordinary voices that bring these stories to the stage. We also celebrate the unique and meaningful ways in which we can gather together to hear these voices within a global urban center like Chicago," said IVP Executive Director Patrizia Acerra.

Monday, April 7 at 7 p.m.: From Austria, IVP presents living. under water by Ewald Palmetshofer, translated by Neil Blackadder, presented in collaboration with Red Tape Theatre, and directed by Brandon Ray.

Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m.: From Norway, IVP presents the reading of Man Without Purpose by Arne Lygre, translated by May-Brit Akerholt, presented in collaboration with Akavit Theatre and directed by Breahan Eve Pautsch.

Monday, April 14 at 7 p.m.: From Uganda, IVP presents the reading of Just Me, You and THE SILENCE by Judith Lucy Adong, and directed by Andrea Diamond.

Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m.: From Sweden, IVP presents the reading of I Call My Brothers by Jonas Hassen Khemiri, translated byRachel Willson-Broyles, directed by Anna C. Bahow.

Monday, April 21 at 7 p.m.: From Germany, IVP presents the reading of At Black Lake by Dea Loher, translated by Daniel Brunet, in collaboration with Sideshow theatre and directed by Jonathan L. Green.

Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m.: From Canada, IVP presents Helen's Necklace, by Carole Frechette, translated by John Murrell, presented in partnership with Consulate General of Canada in Chicago and directed by David G. Zak.

Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m.: From Egypt, IVP presents The Castle and The Sparrow by Ahmed Serag, translated by Fouad Teymour, presented in partnership with The Egyptian Consulate in Chicago, The Egyptians American Society and Egyptians Abroad for Development, and directed by Hassan Amejal.

Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m.: From Chile, IVP presents That Thing I Never Shared with You by Claudia Hidalgo, translated by William Gregory, presented in partnership with Instituto Cervantes, Chicago Theater Sweatshop and Victory Gardens Theatre and directed by Mercedes Herrero.
