Theatre Y will present Juliet by Andràs Visky, featuring Melissa Hawkins, as part of the 11th annual New York International Fringe Festival.  The production will run from August 10th through 26th.

"A woman's enduring love is tested while imprisoned with her children with no chance of survival. Caught in a passionate love triangle between her husband and her god, she makes a final gamble for her life," state press notes.

"Based on the true story of playwright András Visky's parents, Juliet is the story of a Hungarian woman imprisoned in a Romanian detention camp with her seven children while her husband is in a communist prison. Although Juliet is performed by just one actress, it brings alive a multitude of stories, objects, places and situations, with even God stepping onto the scene as the main protagonist in Juliet's escape. While working as a company actress in Budapest's Studio K, Melissa Hawkins was handed the newly translated script of Juliet. Upon reading it Melissa became determined to meet the playwright, if only to shake hands with the man who had succeeded where so many have failed. Juliet was an uncompromising marriage of faith and art – two ideals that all too often destroy each other. Juliet has been on the programme of the Thália Theatre in Budapest for three seasons, playing to full houses.

The performance schedule is Friday, August 10 at 9:30pm. Sunday, August 12 at 12pm. Thursday, August 16 at 7pm. Saturday, August 18 at 2:30pm. Wednesday, August 22 at 4:30pm. Friday, August 24 at 3pm. All performances will be at the Independent Theater (52-A West 8th St. between 6th Ave & Macdougal St.)
