Hudson Village Theatre to Present THE LADIES FOURSOME, 6/22-7/10

HVT (Hudson Village Theatre) presents The Ladies Foursome, from Canada's well-loved and prolific playwright, Norm Foster. An instant hit when it debuted at the Upper Canada Village Playhouse in July of 2014, this 'hijinks on the links' comedy, running from June 22 to July 10, is directed by Scapegoat Carnivale Theatre's Co-founder and Co-artistic Director, Alison Darcy.

The day following the wake for Catherine, Margot, Connie and Tate's weekly golf partner, the threesome gather on the tee with newcomer, Dory, to play a round in honour of their dearly departed. Over the 'course' of the next 18 holes, the rigours of golf pale in comparison to the surprises and confessions that emerge as the women discuss everything from life and love to men and sex. Nothing is sacred including Connie's endless pursuit of men ("I don't worry about getting a reputation. I worry about keeping one."); Margot's drinking ("Where else can you drink this early in the morning and people think it's normal?"); Tate's fear that she's wasted her life ("I haven't made enough of this life I've been given. [...] I want more."); and Dory's dirty little secret that she abhors running a lodge in the Canadian wilderness ("I should be grateful we have indoor plumbing or I'd be down at the river beating my kids against rocks to get them clean!"). From the tee-off to the final hole, The Ladies Foursome offers some of the funniest, most outrageous, and touching golf swings in the history of the game.

Matthew Tiffin, HVT's Artistic Director, explained his choice of Alison Darcy to direct Foster's latest. "I've long been a fan of Alison's work, and have admired her talent, artistry, determination, and all the passion and good work she's given Montreal. When I read Foster's hilarious play, the first person I thought of was Alison."

With Scapegoat Carnivale known for its unique interpretations of original plays and classical stories, light comedy was a departure from Ms. Darcy's wheelhouse. "It's been a year of exploration for me", said Darcy, who recently returned from Vancouver where she was working intensively with several theatre companies focusing on devised theatre methods. "The Ladies Foursome will definitely broaden my skills. Putting my aesthetic on the production while making sure to respect Norm's comedic style and HVT's loyal patrons, is an exciting challenge. Between the fast-moving script and this extraordinary cast, HVT audiences are in for a fun theatre outing."

Margot, a devoted fan of the alcoholic beverage, is played by Susan Glover, last seen at HVT in Colleen Curran's Casa de Mary Margaret. Shannon Hamilton, who recently finished filming her second season with the Kids CBC show, The Moblees, makes her HVT debut as Tate. Mary Harvey, star of the 2014 HVT production of The 39 Steps, returns as the highly-sexed cougar, Connie, and Eleanor Noble, who had audiences in stitches during HVT's Wife Begins at Forty two summers ago, rounds out the cast as Dory, the newcomer from the country.

Jo-Anne Vezina, who designed the set for last year's Bingo Ladies, returns to create an 18-hole golf course on HVT's stage. Cathia Pagotto, who has been a designer since the late 90s, created the costumes and lighting designs for this production, while Joe Browne, who worked with Scapegoat Carnivale for the world premiere of Bar Kapra, contributed his talents to the sound design. In addition to theatre, Maureen Callaghan has worked for opera and dance companies, and comes to Hudson for the first time to stage manage.
