Glimmerglass Opera has finalized the principal singers, conductors and directors who will join the company for its 2010 Festival.

Glimmerglass Opera's 2010 Festival will feature new productions of Puccini's Tosca, Copland's The Tender Land, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and the U.S. professional stage premiere of Handel's Tolomeo. The productions will run in rotation in the Alice Busch Opera Theater in Cooperstown from July 9 through August 24, 2010. The operas will be presented in new productions, with sets designed by Donald Eastman.

Tosca will be directed by Ned Canty and conducted by David Angus, Glimmerglass Opera's Music Director. Soprano Lise Lindstrom will sing Tosca, tenor Adam Diegel will sing the role of Cavaradossi, and baritone Lester Lynch will sing the role of Scarpia.

The Tender Land, an opera written for young singers, will be cast entirely with members of Glimmerglass Opera's 2010 Young American Artists Program, the company's training program for young singers. Music Director Emeritus Stewart Robertson, who helped found the Young American Artists Program in 1988, will return to conduct. Tazewell Thompson will direct.

The Marriage of Figaro will be directed by Leon Major, whose work was most recently seen at Glimmerglass in the company's 2006 production of The Barber of Seville. Angus will conduct. Bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi will sing Figaro. Soprano Lyubov Petrova, last seen at Glimmerglass as Cleopatra in the company's 2008 production of Giulio Cesare in Egitto, will return to sing the role of Susanna. Soprano Caitlin Lynch will sing The Countess, with bass-baritone Mark Schnaible as The Count. Mezzo-soprano Aurhelia Varak will sing the role of Cherubino.

Tolomeo will be directed by Chas Rader-Shieber and conducted by Christian Curnyn. Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo will sing the role of Tolomeo. Mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, Angelina in the company's recent production of La Cenerentola, will sing Elisa. Soprano Joélle Harvey will sing the role of Seleuce.

Glimmerglass Opera's Young American Artists Program was established in 1988. A training program for young singers, the program brings singers and accompanists in the first stages of their professional careers to study and perform in the creative and demanding atmosphere of Glimmerglass. Young American Artists are chosen annually from more than 700 applicants. The three-month summer program focuses on education through performance, which comes from opportunities to cover and perform appropriate roles in mainstage productions. In addition to performing, Glimmerglass Young Artists receive musical coachings, as well as attend classes and workshops in diction and acting, audition technique and role preparation.

Established in 1975 and based in Cooperstown, New York, Glimmerglass Opera is a professional, non-profit opera company that offers approximately 40 performances of four operas that run in rotation during July and August. The company sells close to 35,000 tickets every summer to an international audience. Since its opening in 1987, the company's Alice Busch Opera Theater has been home to more than 85 productions. The 2009 Festival runs from July 9-August 24 and will feature four new productions: Puccini's Tosca, Copland's The Tender Land, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Handel's Tolomeo.
