Richard Griffiths, currently starring in the hit Broadway production of EQUUS, will appear at the annual Macy's Herald Square Tree Lighting this Sunday, November 23 at 6:30 p.m. on Broadway between 34th & 35th Streets. Griffiths will be reading the classic holiday poem "The Night Before Christmas." Also set to appear at the live event in Herald Square are Kermit the Frog, Grandma from the Big Apple Circus, The Mistletones, and a special appearance by Santa Claus. In addition to the display of Macy's famed Tree of Lights, their 2008 holiday windows will be unveiled.

Richard Griffiths - who has appeared as Harry Potter's Uncle Vernon Dursley in the blockbuster "Harry Potter" films - won the 2006 Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in "The History Boys." He has also appeared in the films "Gandhi," "The French Lieutenant's Woman," "Chariots of Fire," "The History Boys," and Disney's upcoming "Bedtime Stories."

Under the direction of Thea Sharrock, EQUUS opened on September 25 for a strictly limited engagement through February 8, 2009 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street).

EQUUS is Peter Shaffer's play about a boy with a secret and the surprising things that happen when a beautiful young girl brings that secret to light. After the mild-mannered stable boy Alan Strang (played by Daniel Radcliffe) has committed a serious crime, the court-appointed psychiatrist Martin Dysart (Richard Griffiths) is charged with revealing the mysteries behind the boy's behavior while confronting his own self-doubt in his marriage, his profession and his life.

EQUUS stars Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radclife, and featured in the cast are Kate Mulgrew, Anna Camp, Carolyn McCormick, Lorenzo Pisoni, T. Ryder Smith, Graeme Malcolm, Sandra Shipley, Collin Baja, Tyrone Jackson, Spencer Liff, Adesola Osakalumi, and Marc Spaulding.
