The Ghostlight Project will bring together over 500 participating organizations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. From Broadway to high school auditoriums, members of the theater community will gather from coast to coast on January 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in each time zone to light a light and make a pledge. Inspired by the theatrical tradition of keeping a "ghost light" on in a darkened theater, we create light for the challenging times ahead.

At 5:30pm on January 19, 2017, Delaware Theatre Company will join over 500 theaters, ensembles and companies, high school and university theater programs will gather across the country to light a light and make a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone. As the participants' lights are shining, a representative from the theatre will affirm our position to our community out loud in front of our supporters, citizens, and staff.

From Saheem Ali, Director and member of the Ghostlight Project Steering Committee: "The act of expressing something out loud has significance. [It] demonstrates solidarity and a firmness of belief. Our most solemn ceremonies-weddings, graduations, ordinations-are by design public and communal because they demand witnesses. By standing outside the privacy afforded by one's four walls and declaring something in full voice, one asks to be held accountable for the stance being taken."

"Delaware Theatre Company actively commits to our community that we will remain a diverse and inclusive organization, welcoming individuals of all walks of life, regardless of their race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation", says Executive Director Bud Martin. "Our staff is in the middle of an in-depth equality, diversity, and inclusion training. This training will provide them the necessary skills to facilitate brave conversations - while we prepare for perhaps the timeliest production of our season, WHITE GUY ON THE BUS. I hope all arts organizations in Delaware will join us in maintaining these inclusive values that have allowed artists to produce meaningful and engaging work."

Where: Delaware Theatre Company, 200 Water Street, Wilmington, DE 19801

When: Thursday, January 19th, from 5:15pm to 5:45pm

What to bring: Please bring a cell phone or flashlight to shine with theatres across the country at precisely 5:30pm - and share in our our commitment to provide a safe and inclusive haven for all.
