Waterwell today announced a special command performance at Joe's Pub of its 2016 New Works Lab commission Some of the Things Inside, a bracingly honest play by one of the most singular and significant voices in the American theater: Pulitzer Prize finalist and OBIE Award winner Dael Orlandersmith (Forever, Yellowman, Beauty's Daughter). This year's installment of the annual developmental workshop series for the senior Drama class at the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS), Some of the Things Inside is directed by Allison Talis and will play Joe's Pub Monday, April 18th at 7:00pm.

Tickets to Some of the Things Inside are $10 and can be purchased online at http://www.publictheater.org/Tickets/.

Some of the Things Inside dives deeply into the interior worlds of today's youth. Told through the individual and collective voices of contemporary teens, the play explores the challenges they face and the ways they rise above. Out of isolation and fear emerge compassion and connection as these young people search for the truth and beauty in resilience.

The cast is comprised entirely of graduating seniors in the Waterwell Drama Program @ PPAS, some of the most promising young talent in the city. The creative team includes Bryce Cutler (Scenic Design), Deanna Frieman (Costume Design), Cecilia Durbin (Lighting Design), Adam Salberg (Sound Design), Deb Gaouette (Properties Design) and Ilana Khanin (Production Stage Manager).

"The Public Theater has been presenting compassionate and uncompromising shows about young people in its cabaret spaces since Liz Swados' Runaways premiered there in 1978," said Artistic Director Tom Ridgely. "So it's only fitting that Dael's deeply personal, insightful new play should find its home at Joe's Pub. In it she holds an X-ray up to the psyche of children forced to grow up too fast, and in so doing projects a scorching image of innocence lost but wisdom gained, and the resilience of survival. It will be a thrill to see it brought to life by this richly diverse and prodigiously gifted young cast."

Designed to stimulate the creation of high-quality new plays for young actors, Waterwell's New Works Lab @ PPAS offers emerging and established playwrights the chance to develop their work with the support of professional directors and designers and a cast of exceptionally talented young artists. Previous NWL playwrights have been Qui Nguyen (Begets: Fall of a High School Ronin, 2015), Nick Jones (Salomé of the Moon, 2014), A. Rey Pamatmat (A Spare Me, 2013), Bekah Brunstetter (Nothing Is The End Of The World (except for the end of the world), 2012) and Stephen Karam (Emma, 2011); the latter three are published by Playscripts and have gone on to dozens of productions worldwide.
