Family and Community combine with the arts when Cabrillo Music Theatre celebrates their upcoming production of MARY POPPINS with LET'S GO FLY A KITE! Inspired by a key moment in the movie and stage versions of the show, LET'S GO FLY A KITE allows families (and individuals, too) to build and fly their own kites, learn crafts from local artists, and, most importantly, gather together as a community with city officials, community leaders and local businesses for a free afternoon of music, food and fun. LET'S GO FLY A KITE takes place on Sunday, March 8th, 2015, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM, in Carpenter Park, directly outside Cabrillo Music Theatre's home venue, the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

"Like everyone who's ever seen MARY POPPINS, "Let's Go Fly A Kite" as always left me a little choked up," says Cabrillo Music Theatre's Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld. "As a parent myself, I'd welcome the opportunity to celebrate family by building a kite with my kids! LET'S GO FLY A KITE captures what's best about MARY POPPINS and the City of Thousand Oaks, and brings everything together in one afternoon of fun!" Adds Wilkenfeld, "Cabrillo Music Theatre has always emphasized education and opportunity for the next generations, and so we're extending an invitation to local artists to come and teach their craft to young people, and pass on their skills to a new artists."

LET'S GO FLY A KITE is a full afternoon of family fun. Participants can make and decorate kites just for fun, or to be placed in competition. Individuals and families are welcome. Cabrillo Music Theatre will have supplies on site, but guests can also build one beforehand. The competition will be judged at family and individual levels by local teachers and leaders, with winners rewarded for creativity, effort, and aerodynamics. Participants can also "Draw Their Own Adventure," using paint, chalk, and more, led by members of our own community - and "Bert," everyone's favorite street artist!

Hungry? If you didn't bring your own picnic, local goodies will be available from fun food trucks. And, of course, Mary Poppins will be there as well, to pose for pictures, greet guests, and introduce a sneak preview of Cabrillo Music Theatre's all-new production of MARY POPPINS! Mary will also lead a community singalong, and present other entertainment as well! Admission is free, of course! Just bring yourself, your family, and your imagination! It's more fun than a spoonful of sugar when Cabrillo Music Theatre invites you to "Let's Go Fly A Kite!"
