Bryan Singer Confirms Original X-MEN Trilogy Cast Will Not Appear in 'APOCALYPSE'

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST director Bryan Singer confirmed that X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, due out in 2016, will stand on its own.

Singer told the publication that not only will the film be "more of a First Class sequel" than a follow-up to 'DAYS,' but the original trilogy's cast, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman, will not be returning.

Despite buzz that Michael Fassbender would be possessed by an alien Apocalypse, Singer also says that's not the case. The film will reportedly follow the canon established in the comics, and the character will originate from ancient Egypt.

"What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons?" Singer said. "If such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?"

The film will act as something of a sequel to 'First Class'. Days of Future Past is taken from two issues of Marvel Comics' Uncanny X-Men in 1981. The story was set in an alternate future in which surviving mutants were confined to concentration camps, while most of the X-Men had been killed. In order to stop this dismal future from unfolding, the X-Men had to stop a specific event from occurring in the past.
