Producer Eva Price has announced that Benjamin Scheuer, writer and performer of the gripping, highly acclaimed autobiographical solo show The Lion, has been awarded the 2015 ASCAP Foundation Jamie deRoy & friends Songwriting Award. He will receive a grant of $1,250, which will be presented on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

"I am ecstatic that Benjamin has been honored by the ASCAP Foundation for his incredible work as a songwriter. His music speaks to everyone, and I am thrilled for audiences to continue experiencing his talent through his show The Lion," said producer Eva Price.

Awarded annually to a seasoned songwriter (either composer, lyricist, team, or writers) whose work has been of a high and consistent level of professionalism, the Jamie deRoy & friends Songwriting Award recognizes outstanding work, dedication, and craftsmanship. A panel, including representatives from ASCAP, selects the recipient.

Past recipients of the Jamie deRoy & friends Songwriting Award include Amanda Yesnowitz & Deborah Abramson, David Buskin, Michelle Brourman, Lance Horne, Marcy Heisler & Zina Goldrich, Christine Lavin, Johnny Rodgers, and Barry Kleinbort.

Directed by Sean Daniels, The Lion opened to rave reviews at the Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street, New York, NY) on Sunday, February 8th and is currently playing an extended engagement through March 29th, following an award-winning run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and sold-out productions at the Manhattan Theatre Club and London's St. James Theatre.

As previously announced, The Lion will embark on a national tour beginning August 22, 2015 at the Merrimack Repertory Theatre (Lowell, Massachusetts), and will also play the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre (Milwaukee, WI), Geva Theatre Center (Rochester, NY), Arena Stage (Washington, DC), and City Theatre Company (Pittsburgh, PA).

Some stories have to be sung. A good storyteller uses everything he has. So Benjamin Scheuer uses his guitar - actually, six guitars - in The Lion, a wholly original downtown musical experience that tells one man's gripping coming-of-age story. The award-winning songwriter inspires and disarms with his raw wit and emotional depth as he leads you on a rock n' roll journey from boyhood to manhood, through pain and healing, to discover the redemptive power of music. Much like its hero, The Lion roars.

The Lion is currently playing at New York City's Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street) with the following performance schedule: Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 5 PM & 8 PM, Sunday at 3 PM. Tickets are $26 - $75 and are now available via www.TheLionMusical.com.

An exclusive mobile lottery for $10 tickets is available via TodayTix, New York's theater ticketing app. The entry period will begin each day at midnight, and continue until winners are notified via push notification 3-4 hours before the selected performance begins. Winners will be offered the opportunity to purchase $10 tickets, and can pick up their tickets from the Lynn Redgrave Theater box office. Lottery tickets and seat locations are subject to availability.

The Lion is presented Off-Broadway at the Lynn Redgrave Theater by Eva Price, Stacey Mindich, Warner/Chappell Music, Tom McGrath, Spruce Lake Theatrical, Jamie deRoy/Haley Swindal/Dan Shaheen, Scott M. Delman, and Robert Kraft.
