It's the last year of your undergrad and the pressure to know what you will be doing in a few months is crazy. And by this time you wear your cap and gown, you may still be unsure of where your life will lead. However, all you know is what you have studied and hope that your bachelor degree was worth that student loan you probably begged your parents your to sign. And of course, your bachelor degree doesn't mean anything without a job. It's a piece of paper and with a title without the value. It's an unfortunate reality but having a job after college doesn't always happen. So what in the world do you do, when you are unsure...

The first thing is accept the fact that is unsure, because if you don't embrace it life will just keep rolling and bombarding you with opportunities and decision you will mostly regret taking. So if you are unsure, take this seriously and don't leave it alone. It's okay to be unsure but it is not okay to wait for a sign to tell you where to go. The world is full of decisions and different paths so make your path your own and have the patience to figure it out. I find it a little ridiculous to believe that a child must go through their whole life choosing one career path and having to stick through it their whole life. When we were children they told us we could be anything but now, we have to be one thing and that sucks.

Secondly, you are not alone. If you have honest friends, you probably know their struggles with their own accomplishments in their career path. We tend to think we are the only ones feeling unaccomplished and unsure of what will happen in the future. But honestly, everyone has questions about their future and mostly likely have experience a similar situation in their life.

Your uncertainty does not mean failure. You have not failed yet because you are questioning yourself not quitting on yourself, a big difference. These are big decisions and a lot to figure out in such a short amount. And actually I believe being uncertain of your future has a lot of benefits.

Benefits of the uncertainty

  1. Taking Risks- Our plans can often limit us of the possibilities of something else. Although plans offer us a visual of how our life may look, we might only be looking at one window and not seeing the other windows that are waiting to be opened. So open your windows and see what's out there. It may either give you clarity of what you want to do or not. And if you don't want to see any windows anymore, all you have to do is close it. ?
  2. Reality Check-Our uncertainties allow us to see more realistic goals of our dreams. People who question often see the worst before they see the best. This helps us not to settle for a mediocre lifestyles. Even if that was the best job in the world, it is not the best if you don't feel yourself. Find something that makes you happy and stick with it.
  3. Creativity- Being uncertain allows us to be creative. Art is formed out of a question or expression that needs to be solved in some way, since we are uncertain we are constantly searching for the answer, so we become creative in our lives and how we live because we want to live the life we want to live.
  4. Accepting your failures- Having the ability to risk , check what's really in front of you and create a path for yourself, may all come in handy but one big benefit of uncertainty is accepting your failures. Failing is absolutely a part of life and the worst thing you do is never fail at all. Once you have failed at something, you can assess what you did wrong and how to improve on failures. This will help us to eliminate choices that we once thought we were uncertain about and focus on the ones that are working. This is a trial and error technique that we unconsciously do every day but of course we have to work on it.
