Appleton Museum of Art Presents The Ocala Symphony Orchestra's FIERY CLASSICAL SALSA Today

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra (OSO) turns up the heat with the exploration of Latin music, as part of the SoundArt collaboration with the Appleton Museum of Art, a special series which combines art and music.

OSO musicians Natasha Herrera, flute; Josh Ceballos, piano; Rickie Santiago, percussion; David Santiago, saxophone; Calvin Bond, bass; Ivan Trac, percussion will be playing an exciting collection of celebrated Latin tunes which are recognized in popular Latin ballroom dancing, including salsa, bolero, tango and more.

Music selections for this performance include: El Manicero, Moises Simons (1889-1945), considered by many to be the most famous piece of music created by a Cuban musician; Histoire de Tango, Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), which attempts to uncover the history and evolution of the tango in four movements: Bordello 1900, Café 1930, Nightclub 1960, and Concert d'Aujourd'hui; Cachita, Rafael Hernandez (1892-1965), composed by one of the most important composers of Puerto Rican popular music during the 20th century; Sabor a Mí, Álvaro Carrillo (1921-1969), composed by a Mexican composer who primarily wrote boleros.

The SoundArt concert series provides patrons with an intimate look at various genres of orchestral music, by bringing small ensembles of musicians to perform at the Appleton Museum of Art's auditorium. This series is an interactive experience, which enhances the personal connection that music offers by allowing patrons to ask questions about the music being performed. In addition to attending the concert, the purchase of a ticket to SoundArt includes entry to the museum.
