According to The New York Times - A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE has hired Daphne Rubin-Vega, Wood Harris, Blair Underwood and Nicole Ari Parker, but the production has yet to book a Broadway house.
THE FABULOUS LIES OF HOLLYWOOD WHORES faces the same quandary. Though no stars were officially announced, the show has yet to book a theatre for its previously announced Broadway debut. The influx of new shows, combined with the long-running hits, leave few of the forty Broadway theatres available for the taking; producers are hopeful that they'll be able to book a house before spring's come and gone, and winter closings will determine much toward which shows receive a Broadway bow this year.
Streetcar was last seen on Broadway in 2005 starring Natasha Richardson, Amy Ryan and John C. Reilly. This multi-racial production of A Streetcar Named Desire, is a follow-up to their highly successful Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which starred Terrence Howard, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose and James Earl Jones, and was directed by Debbie Allen. The production subsequently moved to London's West End (with Jones and Rashad joined by Sanaa Lathan as Maggie and Adrian Lester as Brick) where it was honored with the "What's Onstage" and the prestigious "Olivier" awards for Best Revival.
The Fabulous Lies of Hollywood Whores is set in the most exclusive department store in Los Angeles, this is an ambitious new comedy that revolves around the eight main characters dealing with the complexity of juggling double lives. Put away those Othello monologues; this is cold, hard, broad comedy ... farce, requiring brilliantly talented physical comedians. The show is dirty, the show moves fast, but there is a deep and intoxicating heart that pulses throughout. Love ain't cheap, but it sure is wonderful.
