The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk is a touching coming-of-age tale about friendship, betrayal and overcoming adversity. Co-produced by Windmill Theatre and Barking Gecko Theatre Company, this Catherine Wheels Theatre Company production will be in Adelaide for only three performances from 8 - 9 August at Tandanya Theatre.

Directed by renowned international director Gill Robertson, this is simply told, powerful theatre about the turmoil of the schoolyard and just how difficult it can be to stay true to your friends.

Suitable for ages nine and over, the one-man show features Adelaide actor Renato Musolino (The Kreutzer Sonata; The Seagull) and will tour regional South Australian schools after its Adelaide season.

"Catherine Wheels are an international benchmark in the creation of theatre for young audiences," said Windmill Theatre's Artistic Director Rosemary Myers.

"Windmill has presented three productions directed by Gill (Cinderella; White; The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean) over the past four years, and we are particularly thrilled to have this talented woman here in Adelaide, working with our own Australian artists.

"The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk, written by Rob Evans, is a funny and potent exploration of the stakes of friendship. It celebrates the art of live storytelling and the power of the actor, and has delighted audiences the world over. Windmill is really excited about this chance to share it with young people in South Australia."

Catherine Wheels are an innovative Scottish theatre company celebrated for creating provoking, thoughtful and intelligent children's theatre. Their award-winning and celebrity-coveted production of White toured to Adelaide in 2012, Cinderella to the Forge Theatre in 2010 and The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean was programmed during the 2014 Adelaide Festival.

The original production of The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk has played at New Victory Theater in New York City and the Sydney Opera House.
