See the biggest stories of the past year through the lenses of Australia's best press photographers in the 2015 Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition in the Artspace Gallery from 16 December 2015 - 24 January 2016.

The works of 13 finalists will be on display, providing a visual snapshot of world events, emotions and memorable moments of 2015. The exhibition features works by Australia's most outstanding photojournalists capturing some of the beautiful, challenging and diverse moments in everyday Australian life.

The Nikon Walkley Awards are the highest honour in Australian journalism, celebrating excellence across all media. They are the pinnacle of achievement for Australian press photographers, judged by industry experts in recognition of their work across a range of genres - from news and sport to portraiture and photographic essays. Since 1956, when the first Walkleys were bestowed in five categories, the awards have grown to more than 30 categories with more than 350 entries considered for selection, including documentary film and non-fiction books.

The Nikon-Walkley Photo of the Year was recently announced, Gary Ramage's 'Ice Nation'. The image was shot by Ramage in Perth and was a clear stand-out for the judges. The judges said "Gary's work has great social impact." They praised his dedication to telling the story "without stigmatising the victim, and with empathy for everyone in the room." Finalists for the other categories have been chosen and winners will be announced onDecember 3. To view the finalists' photographs visit http://bit.ly/walkleysphotodoco

In selecting three finalists in each category, from just over 2500 images entered this year, the Walkley judges looked for newsworthiness, impact, creativity and technical skill. This exhibition, showcasing the 2015 finalists, encompasses a range of stories - from politicians to everyday folk, from our backyards to the furthest corners of the globe. Such is the power of photojournalism: in a frozen moment, the smallest story can be as compelling as the largest.

Some of these images are the work of a split-second. Others took months of research and trust-building. Photographers interact with their subjects with perhaps more intimacy than story-tellers in any other medium and the stories they tell can move you with a single frame.
