Mission Statement

Bag&Baggage's mission is to unpack the stories we carry with us — from anecdotal to epic; from original to classic — using these as the groundwork to create transformative theatrical experiences that explore our shared humanity.

Vision Statement

Bag&Baggage strives to weave creative expression into the fabric of the civic life of Hillsboro through conscious relationship-building; to use our art to intentionally challenge the tenets of white supremacy; and to heal the wounds in our community through the cultivation of empathy and listening. We use this vision as our guide as we actively work towards our collective liberation.

HYPE: Hillsboro Youth Performance Ensemble
A 6-Month Professional Theatre Development Program For Ages 13-18 (Grades 9-12)
STARTING JANUARY 2025

What’s all the HYPE about?
The Hillsboro Youth Performance Ensemble (or, HYPE) is Bag&Baggage’s all-new upcoming youth theatre creative and professional development program!

- Train in ensemble theatre creation practices including devising an original show to be performed in June 2025
- Gain mentorships with B&B staff and resident artists
- Immerse within practical experience in their choice of technical, design, and administrative capacities
- Participate in a professional production team for the 2025 world premiere of The Ballad of Iron Jo

How to Apply
- Be a high school student living in Washington County
- Write a Letter of Interest explaining why you would like to join HYPE—be specific about your previous theatre experience and what you hope to gain from participating in HYPE
- Include one adult reference (from a teacher, coach, employer, etc)
- Email your letter and reference to: hype@bagnbaggage.org
