Named after Amas Musical Theatre’s founder Rosetta LeNoire and inspired by the company’s mission to develop new work, the inaugural Rosetta LeNoire Writers Lab for Mini Musicals will offer a select group of high school-aged aspiring musical theatre creatives the unique opportunity to write and develop original one act mini musical scripts and scores from conception to a staged reading.
On Wednesdays, 4:30 - 7:30 PM, from March 5 - May 14, 2025, trios comprised of a high school-aged Book Writer/Lyricist (Playwright), Director, and Composer/Lyricist will meet at The Amas Studio in Midtown Manhattan to collaborate and receive mentorship from accomplished musical theatre creatives. High school-aged actors will join the Lab in April to rehearse and contribute to the development process.
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the creative teams and casts will present a staged reading of the new mini musicals for an invited audience of industry professionals, family, and friends who will also be welcome to participate in a short talk-back.
Students will complete the Lab with experience and new knowledge in musical theatre script and score development, a draft of their complete libretto which can be submitted to festivals and included on college applications, an archival recording of the staged reading, feedback from an invited audience, and collaborators with whom they may continue to create. The goal of the Rosetta LeNoire Writers Lab for Mini Musicals is to provide high school students with the new work development resources and guidance rarely available pre-college.
