A new musical by 21 year old composer, Carl Calow is this springs new musical offering at the Watermill in Newbury. Its subject is family bereavement and family values!
...all that and the news that the venue has secured its future with its 3M fund raising now complete.

Reading thro' the Watermill's brochure this sounds very interesting and ambitious (despite the title). It's apparently doing a small tour as well.

Ya, the title is a bit iffy isn't it. Supposedly the touring venture is something they want to make a thing of to keep raising money.

The title is the name of a character in the musical - Barbara 'Bubbles' Beswick.

It's on tour to over 25 venues around England this spring so it's set to be a large rural tour this time around - not to be missed!

It comes across in this thread, that the Watermill only do one show a year, is this true?

"The title is the name of a character in the musical - Barbara 'Bubbles' Beswick."

Wanting to be constructive, I'm not sure naming a musical after one of the characters really works nowadays (Maddie for example).

Are you coming up North?

Thanks for the link, I had a look with great interest.

I enjoyed there production of Sunset Boulevard, but couldn't car for Sweeny Todd, are these the only ones that have transfered from The watermill to London?

I thought the a/m concept worked really well with Mack and Mabel because it suited the tragic nature of the material better than a broadway-pizazz type staging.

Janie Dee was good as well.

I think it would be good if The Watermill developed shows that flopped, in a a/m format, such as;

The Pirate Queen
Carrie
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
A Catered Affair
Lestat
Dance of the Vampires
Anyone can Whistle etc etc
