West End's GOLEM to Open at Trafalgar Studios, April 14

Following a critically acclaimed run at the Young Vic, multi award-winning theatre company 1927 bring Golem, their visually arresting and satirical take on our misuse of technology, to Trafalgar Studios 14 April - 22 May with a Press Night on 22 April at 7pm.

Mixing live performance and music with film and animation, Golem follows the life of extraordinarily ordinary Robert Robertson, whose life is irrevocably disrupted when he buys a golem - a creature who will improve the efficiency of his daily affairs. But when Robert upgrades to superior model Golem 2, the show questions what happens when man is no longer in control of machine.

Funny, mischievous and eerily relevant to today's technology-reliant society, Golem is directed and written by Suzanne Andrade, with film, animation and design by Paul Barritt - who jointly won Best Designer at the 2014 Critics' Circle Theatre Awards for the production. Music is by Lillian Henley and associate direction and design is by Esme Appleton.

1927's first new theatre show in four years played in the Main House at the Young Vic 9 December 2014 - 31 January 2015 in a run which was extended due to popular demand.

Following the West End run, Golem will tour internationally, with more dates still being added and then go to HOME in Manchester 7 - 17 October 2015.

1927 is an award-winning London-based company that specialises in combining performance and live music with animation and film to create magical filmic theatre. Founded in 2005 by co-artistic directors Suzanne Andrade and Paul Barritt, the five-strong Company also includes associate artist Esme Appleton, composer Lillian Henley and producer Jo Crowley. Previous productions include The Animals and Children Took to the Streets (Sydney Opera House, National Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre); Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Battersea Arts Centre); The Magic Flute (Komische Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, LA Opera, Minnesota Opera); The Krazy Kat Project (Ensemble Musikfabrik).

1927 is an Associate Company of the Young Vic.

The full cast for the run at Trafalgar Studios will feature: Will Close, Charlotte Dubery, Lillian Henley, Rose Robinson and Shamira Turner. Golem is produced by Jo Crowley. The original production was co-produced by 1927, Salzburg Festival, Théâtre de la Ville Paris and the Young Vic and supported in development by The Tolman Centre Cornwall, Harrogate Theatre, Stratford Circus and The Old Market.

Young Vic in the West End: recent transfers include Ivo van Hove's production of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge, which is currently enjoying an eight week run at Wyndham's and will be broadcast to cinemas around the UK and abroad on Thursday 26 March via NT Live; Kander and Ebb's The Scottsboro Boys, directed by Susan Stroman at the Garrick; A Doll's House directed by Carrie Cracknell at the Duke of York's. Recent Young Vic productions include: Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire directed by Benedict Andrews; The Valley of Astonishment directed by Peter Brook; and The Cherry Orchard in a new version by Simon Stephens, directed by Katie Mitchell.
