My Land's Shore, with music by Christopher J. Orton and book and lyrics by Orton and BroadwayWorld's own Robert Gould, will receive its world concert premiere at the Gate Theatre in Cardiff, Wales, from August 3rd through 5th.

"In the aftermath of the Merthyr Rising of 1831, Richard Lewis (aka Dic Penderyn), an ordinary man of conviction and integrity carried along by the wheels of history in extraordinary times, became the first martyr of the Welsh working class. Now he becomes the central character in a new musical with a beautiful and powerful score by Orton (composer of the critically acclaimed 2006 concept album musical Dracula)," state press materials.

My Land's Shore will be staged by Orton and guest director, Craig Revel-Horwood (Olivier Award-nominated choreographer of Spend, Spend, Spend and My One and Only; director of The Hot Mikado and Martin Guerre at the Watermill Theatre; director and choreographer of The Lion King at Euro Disney - and resident judge on the hit BBC television series, "Strictly Come Dancing").

"Set against the back-drop of the turbulent social conflict of early nineteenth century Wales, this musical deals with themes as relevant today as they were in 1831. My Land's Shore is a tale of conflict, social injustice, moral dilemmas, love, guilt and heartbreak - an epic musical gift from the musical nation of Wales to the world."
