Michael Grandage to Helm 'Le Nozze di Figaro' in June 2012

According to a report from Variety, Michael Grandage is set to take on Mozart's 'Le Nozze di Figaro' in June 2012 as part of Glyndebourne Opera's 2012 season.

Michael Grandage is the Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse in London. His work for that company has included Jude Law in Hamlet (also Broadway), Ivanov (Evening Standard and Critics Circle Award Best Director), Madame de Sade, Twelfth Night, The Chalk Garden (Evening Standard and Critics Circle Awards Best Director), Don Juan in Soho, Frost/Nixon (Tony Nomination Award for Best Director), Othello (Evening Standard and Critic's Circle Awards for Best Director), The Wild Duck (Critic's Circle Award Best Director), Guys and Dolls (Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production), Grand Hotel (Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production and Evening Standard Award Best Director), The Cut, After Miss Julie, Caligula (Olivier Award Best Director), Merrilly We Roll Along (Evening Standard Award Best Director), Privates On Parade, Passion Play (Evening Standard Award and Critics Circle Award for Best Director).

He was also Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres from 1999 to 2005 where he directed many productions including Don Carlos (Evening Standard Award Best Director). This fall he directs Derek Jacobi as King Lear at the Donmar Warehouse in London. In 2010, he Grandage was awarded a Tony Award for his direction of Red.

According to the report, designed by Christopher Oram (Tony winner for "Red"), "Figaro" is one of three operas in the six-strong season to be lit by Paule Constable (Tony winner for "War Horse"). Her other productions will be Janacek's "The Cunning Little Vixen," helmed by Melly Still ("Coram Boy"), and a revival of "La Boheme" helmed by David McVicar. The season also include a double bill of Ravel's "L'Heure Espagnole" and "L'Enfant et les Sortileges" directed by Laurent Pelly. Read the Variety article here.
