MADE IN DAGENHAM's Isla Blair will play 'Lady Caroline Byng' in A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS at the Chichester Festival Theatre, running May 30 - June 27, 2015.

With music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, book by Jeremy Sams and Robert Hudson, A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS is based on the novel by P.G. Wodehouse and the play by Wodehouse and Ian Hay.

Chichester's official description reads, "George is an American composer working at the Savoy Theatre in London. Maud is the thoroughly English Lady Marshmoreton, a beautiful socialite who lives in a castle with a ha-ha and a drawbridge. They really shouldn't have met because George needs to complete his musical and Maud needs to marry most urgently, and already has someone totally unsuitable in mind. Luckily Maud's fierce aunt, Lady Caroline, has a solution -- she's going to lock her lusty charge in the tower. Uplifting and wildly funny, this musical comedy is a tribute to English love with all its eccentricities. Based on a novel by P.G. Wodehouse, with songs by George and Ira Gershwin, A Damsel in Distress is well-known from the popular 1937 comedy film."

The musical will be directed by the Tony-, Olivier-, Emmy-, Drama Desk-, and Critics' Circle Award-winning American director and choreographer Rob Ashford. His most recent hits include the 2012 revival of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF with Scarlett Johansson, and MACBETH for the Manchester International Festival in 2013 with Kenneth Branagh and Alex Kingston.

Joining Isla Blair in the cast are Richard Dempsey (Reggie Byng), Harry Morrison (Austen), David Roberts (Pierre Mac), Melle Stewart (Alice), Sally Ann Triplett (Billie Dore) and Matt Wilman (McInnes). In the ensemble are Sam Harrison, Matthew Hawksley, Jonathan Stewart, Lucie-Mae Sumner, Laura Tyrer and Alan Vicary.

The show will feature designs by Christopher Oram, lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Paul Groothius, with musical director Alan Williams and casting directors Gabrielle Dawes and James Orange.
