Full Cast Announced for NOT BLACK AND WHITE Season

Jimmy Akingbola, Aml Ameen, John Boyega , Karl Collins, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Abhin Galeya, Jaye Griffiths, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simone James, Amelia Lowdell, Cecilia Noble, Rebecca Scroggs and Robert Whitelock are the full cast announced for the Not Black and White season - three plays to be presented by the Tricycle Theatre examining the state of Britain at the end of the first decade of the twenty first century.

Not Black and White is a three month season of plays to be presented by the Tricycle Theatre examining life and social issues in 21st Century London from the perspective of three leading black contemporary playwrights. Roy Williams, Kwame Kwei-Armah and Bola Agbaje will tackle the prison system, the mayoralty and immigration respectively in the Not Black and White season which runs from 8 October to 19 December 2009.

Not Black and White will open with Roy Williams' Category B (8 October - 19 December) directed by Paulette Randall. Followed by Kwame Kwei-Armah's Seize the Day (22 October - 17 December), then Bola Agbaje's Detaining Justice (25 November - 15 December) directed by Indhu Rubasingham, all three productions will eventually play in repertoire. The Not Black and White season will be designed by Rosa Maggiora with lighting by James Farncombe and sound by Tom Lishman.

Jimmy Akingbola's theatre credits include Everything Must Go! at Soho Theatre, Othello at the Lyric Hammersmith, Henry VIII for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Cut at the Donmar Warehouse, Prayer Room for Birmingham Rep, Blue/Orange at Sheffield Crucible and Baby Doll, The Changeling and Ramayana for the National Theatre. His screen credits include series regular Neil Parker in Holby Blue and others including The Bill, Holby City and The Royal.

Aml Ameen's stage credits include Jolson at the Victoria Palace and Oliver! at the London Palladium. He was last on screen in ITV's Gunrush alongside Timothy Spall, with other screen credits including Fallout for Channel 4 and Disconnected for the BBC. Ameen's role in the award winning film Kidulthood won him the nomination for Best Newcomer in the 2006 Screen Nation Awards.

John Boyega's previous stage credits are Six Parties for the National Theatre and Macbeth at the Cochrane Theatre.

Karl Collins was last at the Tricycle in Fabulation and the Darfur plays - both directed by Indhu Rubasingham. Collins' other theatre credits include The 11th Capital at the Royal Court and Fuente Ovejuna and Sarita at the National Theatre. He is most recognised on screen for his roles as Aiden in Casualty, Danny Glaze in The Bill and Trevor in Grease Monkeys but his other credits include Dr Who, Metrosexuality and Parallel Nine.

Sharon Duncan-Brewster was last at the Tricycle in 2008 in Kwame Kwei-Armah's hit play Let There Be Love. Further Tricycle Theatre credits are Fabulation, Playboy of the West Indies and Blues For Mr Charlie. Her other theatre credits include The Baccae, The Magic Carpet and Peepshow at the Lyric Hammersmith, Keepers at Hampstead Theatre and Ashes and Sand and Babies at the Royal Court. Her most prominent screen roles have included Trina in EastEnders and Crystal in Bad Girls with other credits including Waking the Dead, Holby City and The Bill.

Abhin Galeya was last at the Tricycle in Best of Motives and his other theatre credits include The Container at the Young Vic and The Ramayana at the National Theatre. Galeya is well known on screen as The Bill regular PC Arun Ghir and Simon in Murder Investigation Team, with other credits including Countdown to War, Robin Hood and Holby City. Galeya also played the lead Mohan in the film The Blue Tower, which won the Best UK Feature Award at the 2008 Raindance Film Festival.

Jaye Griffiths was last at the Tricycle in Mr Knightley and Ugly Rumours. Her other theatre credits include Julius Caesar and Timon of Athens at the Young Vic, Wit at the Vaudeville, A Woman of No Importance and Gasping at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and The Plantagenets and The Plain Dealer for the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is recognised for screen roles including Dr Elizabeth Croft in Doctors, Ruth in Always & Everyone, Ros in Bugs and DI Sally Johnson in The Bill.

Kobna Holdbrook-Smith has been at the Tricycle in Fabulation, Gem of the Ocean, Walk Hard - Talk Loud and The Playboy of the West Indies. His other theatre credits include Death and the Kings Horseman at the National Theatre, Love Labour's Lost and We The People for The Globe, and A Respectable Wedding at the Young Vic. Holdbrook-Smith's television work includes Horne and Corden, Star Stories, Little Britain and Pulling.

Simone James has previously been on stage in 365 at the Lyric Hammersmith and Chatroom & Citizenship at the National Theatre. Her television credits include the lead in forthcoming series Apples and Oranges for Channel 4 and Silent Witness.

Amelia Lowdell's theatre credits include The Frontline for The Globe, Oxford Street, Breath Boom When Brains Don't Count and Yard Gal at the Royal Court and A Bitter Herb at Bristol Old Vic. Her television credits include The Bill, Holby City and Casualty.

Cecilia Noble has previously been at the Tricycle in Wine in the Wilderness, Water, Pecong, The Piano Lesson, Playboy of the West Indies and Iced. Her other stage credits include In The Red & Brown Water and Raisin In the Sun at the Young Vic, His Dark Materials, Henry V and The Recruiting Officer at the National Theatre and Talking in Tongues and This Is A Chair at the Royal Court. Her screen credits include The Bill, Silent Witness and Storm Damage.

Robert Whitelock's theatre credits include The 39 Steps at West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Father for Chichester Theatre and Macbeth, St Erkenwald, Dr Faustus, Henry VIII, Camino Real and The Spanish Tragedy all for The Royal Shakespeare Company. His screen credits include Margaret Thatcher - The Long Walk to Finchley, Whistleblowers, The Brief and Love from Colditz.

Rebecca Scroggs has appeared on stage in Hedda Gabler and As You Like It for the Gardner Arts Centre.
