BWW catches up with Katie Boyle to chat about bringing Roe vs Wade versus Katie to the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Roe v Wade versus Katie.

Roe v. Wade versus Katie is a comedy show about abortion rights, dating, love and immigrating to the states with some references to Irish history and folklore. It's centered around my own experiences with abortion rights, St Brigid, dating an American who's family were republican, reconnecting with a childhood crush to an accidental unwanted pregnancy at 34 in Trump's America,

What are the difficulties of presenting such a vulnerable show?

For me it's just risking someone who has a visceral reaction to abortion being able to use me as a conduit for their hate. I've had a few online death threats but as long as they stay online, I'm ok with that.

With this being your Fringe debut, do you think you know what to expect from the festival?

Honestly I only hope people come and enjoy it!

Who would you like to come and see your show?

I'd love as many people who can relate to shame around sex and their body and want to hear an open conversation via comedy on love, sex, abortion with history and folklore thrown in, via adhd!

What would you like audiences to take away from it?

The whole show leads up to an abortion that I have zero regret about. I'd hope that through laughing maybe people can also question if their shame or self hating actually come from outside voices and do we actually need to care about someone who doesn't see you as an equal, their opinion.
