EDINBURGH 2022: Fills Monkey Q&A

BWW catches up with Fills Monkey to chat about bringing We Will Drum You to the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about We Will Drum You.

We Will Drum You is the second show of the French duet: Fills Monkey.

The show is based on two universal languages: rhythm and humour.

Without any spoken words, Yann and I created a funny and joyous show that can be performed anywhere in the world, and accessible to all generations.

It tells a story of two friends that compete for the title of best musician, and ultimately celebrates their brotherhood and the power of them creating music together. It's a wonderful journey of brotherhood, clowning and percussive gymnastics.

Who are Fills Monkey?

Fills Monkey was born from an organic connection between two drummers. They are the two characters in the show who are alternately best friends and then worst enemies. They have the same goal though: to be on stage, communicate their love for music to the audience and to give their audience the most original and amazing musical experience.

What sets this apart from other shows?

It's really hard to explain in a few words why this show is really special. I suppose the best indicator would be what our audiences have told us over the last ten years we've been touring. As well as the very fact that we've been able to tour for ten years and continue to create powerful connections with our audiences is testament to how special the show is. Seeing how the rhythm and humour unites different cultures and generations - watching children dance with their parents, grandparents even - it's so special to be able to witness and be a part of that.

Also, the structure of the show itself; a show that is centred around two drummers is original. We'd like to invite you to come and see for yourself!

Who would you recommend comes to see it?

As I said this show is designed for every generation from 4 years old to 96 (which was the age of the oldest women who waited to see us after watching our show). Because there are no spoken words the show "speaks" to every nationality. So, I would say we deeply recommend this show to every human on the planet!

Do you think you know what to expect from the Fringe?

We already did this festival a few years ago and that was a wonderful experience! The welcome from the audience and the professionals was even better than what we could dream! So, we're so excited to come back with this brand-new show and share our universe with people! Edinburgh see you soon!!!
