New dice were cast this week at the Piccadilly Theatre as Don Johnson became the new Nathan Detroit in the stylish revival of Frank Loessor's classic, "Guys and Dolls". Johnson, best known for his starring role in two hit TV detective series ("Miami Vice" and "Nash Bridges"), replaces Alex Ferns in a role originally created on Broadway by Sam Levine and made famous by Frank Sinatra in the MGM movie.

Though, at age 57, this is Johnson's first role in a West End musical, he is no stranger to the world of professional singing. He has released two solo albums and in 1987 his hit single Heartbeat reached #5 on the Billboard Charts for 10 straight weeks. Also in 1990 he recorded a duet with Barbra Streisand - "Till I Loved You" from Maury Yeston's concept musical "Goya".

He becomes the third major film and TV star to be cast in Michael Grandage's production - Ewan MacGregor opened the run as Sky Masterson and Patrick Swayze did a stint during 2006 as "good old reliable Nathan". Now, from January 8, the man known to millions as Sonny Crockett takes over the "oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York".
