Cusack, Foster, Stanton Lead Cast of Theatre503's MADAGASCAR, Opens May 11

Sorcha Cusack will lead a cast of three in J T Rogers' award-winning Madagascar, in its UK premiere at Theatre503 this May.

Madagascar won the Pinter Review Prize, the American Theatre Critics' Association Osborne Award, and was awarded "Best Play of the Year" by the Miami Herald and the Miami New Times.

Three people are drawn irresistibly back to Rome to uncover the truth behind a young man's disappearance. To his mother he was an idealist who fled the West for Africa. His mother's lover remembers an angry misfit who threw his life away. But his sister thinks she knows why he really went missing, and a gripping story of desire, loneliness and betrayal unfolds.

J T Rogers' plays include the critically acclaimed The Overwhelming for the National Theatre (NT) and The Great Game for the Tricycle. His next play Blood and Gifts will premiere at the NT later this year. Madagascar was the winner of the Pinter Review Prize, the American Theatre Critics Association's Osborne Award, and Best Play of the Year by the Miami Herald and the Miami New Times.

Tom Littler is Artistic Director of Primavera, and recently directed Anyone Can Whistle (Jermyn Street Theatre), Origin of the Species (Arcola), Saturday Night (Jermyn Street, transferred to Arts Theatre), Jingo: A Farce of War (Finborough) and the Forgotten Classics series.

Sorcha Cusack's acclaimed credits include The Five Wives of Maurice Pinder (NT), The Grapes of Wrath (Chichester/ETT), Sunday Bloody Sunday (Tricycle), as well as Romeo and Juliet, King John (RSC), as well as three years in Casualty (BBC) as Kate Wilson.

Miranda Foster's recent credits include Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare's Globe and Helene in Rufus Norris's Festen. Her work for the National Theatre includes Cordelia in King Lear, Marya in The Government Inspector and Charmian in Antony and Cleopatra.

Barry Stanton spent ten years with the RSC, with roles including Shamreyev in The Cherry Orchard and Toby Belch in Twelfth Night; and several seasons in Bath with Sir Peter Hall. He has appeared in five of Peter Brook's productions and was a founder member of the original 1968 Paris Experimental Theatre.

Theatre503 recently premiered the Olivier Award winner The Mountaintop by Katori Hall (transferred to Trafalgar Studios 1). Allowing established writers the opportunity to write something they wouldn't have the opportunity to have written goes hand in hand with Theatre503's aim to showcase new writers at the beginning of their careers.

Primavera's other recent productions include The Rivals (Southwark Playhouse).
