The Daily Mail reports that Charles Edwards will star in WASTE at the National this autumn.

Despite earlier rumors that Dominic West would take on the role, Edwards will now play 'Henry Trebell' in Harley Granville Barker's political tragedy.

Directed by Roger Michell, WASTE begins at the National's Lyttelton Theatre in November.

WASTE, originally staged at the Westminster Theatre in 1936, follows independent politician Henry Trebell, who plans to dissolve the Church of England and finds himself in ruin after an affair with a married woman.

Edwards' role in WASTE follows directly after his run in RICHARD II at Shakespeare's Globe this summer.

Among his past West End credits are THE KING'S SPEECH, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and THE 39 STEPS, which just announced it will be closing after nine years in London.
