Northamptonshire composer and lyricist, Gareth Peter Dicks has created a new musical for the stage.  Bluebird, a WW2 love story, premiers at The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough on 29th July 2008 for four performances, before embarking on a small UK tour in the autumn.

Bluebird is a dramatic and passionate one act musical that promises to pack a punch.  Although only 90minutes in length, this theatrical telling of life in war torn Britain, strikes a familiar chord with life today.  The story, set in 1940's London, is about normal people, changed and affected by events out of their control.  Bluebird's heartbreaking story, spans the whole five years of the war, and tells of a young nurse, Roberta Jones, as she sees her husband called up to fight and her daughter evacuated to the country.

With powerful music, engaging lyrics and moving staging, this touching musical is sure to draw anyone into its heart, asking them to witness an original story or love, sacrifice and patriarchal dedication. Based on real life accounts, Bluebird, tells an honest account of life within 1940's Britain.  To many this period seems pure fantasy, but to others the reality is strong; close-knit societies of people fighting for their country and a nation joined as one, now artistically brought alive in this tale of hope and truth.

Bluebird, flies to the stage, after six months of preparation, in the capable hands of Broadway School of Performing Arts, whose last musical (A Million Grains of sand) received tremendously positive reviews.    (www.myspace.com/garethpeterdicks)

"Roberta Jones is heartbroken when Pete goes to war, leaving his family behind. They keep their love alive by a series of intense letters.  As the war begins to take it causalities, Roberta, seeks solace in a US patient, Ben, much to the disapproval of her best friend.  But as the fighting gets more intense, so does the connection between them. Roberta needs to decide and quickly, where her loyalties lie."

Gareth Peter Dicks' previous credits include; Escape, the musical and A Million Grains of Sand, both albums available in Dress Circle, London.   (www.dresscircle.com).  He is also the artistic director for Broadway School of Performing Arts and is currently writing a new musical for the West End.

Bluebird is a dramatic musical telling of normal people separated by war. Told through music, word and film, it is sure to touch the heart of anyone who has ever been in love.
