Miriam Zendle talks to the Olivier Award-winning actor...

So we spoke at the lunch...

We spoke at the lunch and I did not think would happen - and here we are!

So a massive surprise?

Absolutely!

How did you feel when you heard your name?

I had a moment sometimes where you just go 'I don't believe in that'. And then time did actually stop for a good second or two. Then I got a kick next to me - 'quick, get up, stand up, you have to go up and get it now'! I was completely... I didn't believe it. I'm overwhelmed.

Had you prepared a speech at all?

No! Funnily enough, my agent went 'look, you have to make sure you say so and so, so and so'. I was like 'yeah, yeah, I don't have to do that, I'm not going to get upstairs, it doesn't need to be me. I'm going to eat my hat when I get home. Hopefully I did get everyone in - I'm worried now! Anyway, if I haven't, I'll cover it here. Thank you to everyone. There, it's done.

You said you didn't expect it - what's it like standing there amongst all your theatre peers in one room?

It's a bit much being in a room with some of the producers, some of the biggest directors, some of the biggest actors, actresses, choreographers. It's such a privilege just to be here, to be amongst them and to win an award is something very special that will be with me for the rest of my life.

And this award could open doors for you in the future.

I can only hope so...
