What a peculiar day. For starters, this place can't make up its mind whether it wants to rain or be sunny (a very different situation to the one I'm used to in London, when generally it's going to rain the whole time). Nevertheless, I happily wandered around this morning seeking free wifi and eventually giving up in favour of using my hotel's paid-for internet service. There's only so long a girl can survive without Twitter.

After making sure everyone in the UK is fine without me (they are - who knew?) I went to meet Broadway World's theatre critic Michael Dale for the first time - we've talked online but not met in person before, so I was extremely pleased that he also volunteered to be the one to introduce me to American sport: more precisely, baseball. There might be no showtunes, but the sport over here is certainly a heck of a lot more polished in terms of production values than anything I've seen in England.

And then on to meet my beautiful friend Gemma for sushi (a habit of ours in London, now temporarily relocated to New York) and a visit to Everyday Rapture. I was so keen to see Sherie Rene Scott on stage, and I'm so sad to say I was incredibly disappointed with the thinness of the narrative, the lack of any identifiable characterisation, and the uneasy shifts in tone. I comforted myself with thinking that at least her vocals would be good, but even they had their patchy moments (flatness overcompensated for with extra vibrato is one of my biggest bugbears), and the rest of the time they were drowned out by the woman next to me (not my friend - someone else) humming along merrily.

Plans for tomorrow are sketchy at the moment. Check back soon for an update - or follow me on Twitter (@carriesparkle).
