It's been a busy few weeks for David Bedella, who's celebrating his birthday amidst rehearsals for In The Heights, returning to London very soon at the King's Cross Theatre after its successful run at the Southwark Playhouse last year.

"It's so exciting, because those of us who have come back have such a love for the piece, and we have new energy and new blood from people who can't believe their luck to be part of it," he enthuses.

Returning cast members include Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, who will be several months' pregnant during her run as Daniela the hairdresser ("It's offering a really new take on the role - she's wonderful") - but even those who have performed their parts before will have to adjust to a different space in King's Cross, which has hosted The Railway Children over several months.

"It's in a new theatre," says Bedella, "and it's going to be great."

After rehearsing for In The Heights during the day, he's been out at night with basque and suspenders back on recently ("It's been exhausting"), reprising his role as Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show at the Playhouse, leading the cast in a gala charity evening along with celebrities including Stephen Fry, Emma Bunton, and the show's creator Richard O'Brien.

"That was fun," he recalls. "I think probably the funnest part of that was getting to meet so many people that I've admired for so long - Martin Clunes, I've watched him on telly for years and I think he's a brilliant actor, and he was waiting by the bar to meet me! There's a lot of mutual admiration at those kind of parties - it makes it all really special."

In The Heights runs from Oct 3 to Nov 1.
