Anderson And Cathey Led 'SHAWSHANK' To Play At West End's Wyndham, Previews Begin 9/4

Variety reports that the stage adaptation of "The Shawshank Redemption" that played at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre will get a West End run in the fall. Based on the Stephen King novella that also inspired the 1994 movie version of "Shawshank", the plot centers on the friendship two men develop over their time as inmates in a notoriously tough prison.

"The Shawshank Redemption" will begin performances Sept. 4th in advance of a Sept. 13th opening at the Wyndham's Theater in London. Tickets are now on sale through Feb. 14th, 2010.

Peter Sheridan directs the production, with set and costume design by Ferdia Murphy, sound by Denis Clohessy and lights by Kevin Treacy reports Variety.

The production made its world stage debut at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre on May 14th and ran until June 20th.

Kevin Anderson made his Off-Broadway debut in Steppenwolf's Orphans and has been a member of The Ensemble since 1984. Kevin's subsequent returns to the stage have been as varying as they were lauded, from the world premiere of Sunset Boulevard in London to Death of Salesman on Broadway (for which he was nominated for a Tony Award) to a heartbreaking turn in I Never Sang For My Father at Steppenwolf.

Since starring with Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin in Sleeping with the Enemy, Kevin Anderson has continued to work alongside many Hollywood greats.  Most recently he was directed by and starred alongside Al Pacino in Oscar Wilde's Salomé at the Wadsworth Theater in LA.  His impressive TV / film credits include In Country, Charlotte's Web, A Thousand Acres, Rising Sun, Miami Vice, Miles from Home, Risky Business and many more.  Among those Kevin has worked with are Michelle Pfeiffer, Colin Firth, Tom Cruise, Richard Gere, Bruce Willis, Joan Allen, Helen Hunt, Harvey Keitel and Joan Allen

Renowned actor Reg  Cathey is best known for his role as Norman Wilson in the smash hit series  The Wire (Carcetti's deputy campaign manager and then top advisor).   He has worked extensively in TV and film since 1984.  He has worked alongside actors that include, Christian Bale, Colin Farrell, Samuel L Jackson, Reese Witherspoon, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey and many more.  His numerous TV / Film credits include S.W.A.T., Law & Order, ER, The Mask, American Psycho, Star Trek, The Next Generation, Clear and Present  Danger.   He is an accomplished Shakespearean actor and has played prominent roles in The Taming of the Shrew, Richard III, Hamlet, and The Merchant of Venice.   Reg is also an accomplished musician (saxophone).
