Actor Ron Moody, perhaps best known for his award-winning turn as Fagin in Oliver! on stage and on screen, has passed away at the age of 91.

He starred in the role when the production first opened in London, appeared in the Oscar-winning film, and reprised it on Broadway in the 1980s, securing a Tony nomination.

He also appeared on stage with the Cameron Mackintosh revival cast at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2010 to celebrate Oliver!'s 50th anniversary.

Other work included film appearances in Summer Holiday, and TV character appearances in Casualty and EastEnders.

He leaves behind a widow, Therese, and their children.
