Following her success as Lady Macbeth in the recent touring production of Macbeth, Abi Titmuss is to continue her transformation from lads' mag favourite to credible actress as she takes the female lead in Stage Fright at London's Canal Cafe Theatre in February, directed by Emma Taylor.

A savagely funny satire on celebrity and theatre from new writer Lynn Howes, Stage Fright charts the struggle for supremacy between three actors appearing in a play together; old friends Peter and Charles, and Geraldine, the young and vulnerable actress they have befriended. As opening night approaches, it becomes apparent that Geraldine is not who she appears to be, and the friends must fight to salvage their pride, their identity and their reputations in this thought-provoking tragicomedy.  Stage Fright calls to mind Jean Paul Sartre's 3-hander No Way Out and its oft-quoted line "Hell is other people".  Lynn Howes' previous work includes Bea - A Paranormal Comedy (Hen and Chickens, Etcetera Theatre) and Cathy's Kitchen (Noel Coward Studio).

Having trained in acting at Central School of Speech and Drama, Abi Titmuss won the Fringe Report Award for Best Debut in 2006 for her role in Arthur Miller's Two Way Mirror. Abi will be joined by Sion Tudor-Owen, who recently appeared as Mr Evans in the West End production of Carrie's War, and has performed on numerous occasions with the RSC, and Alex Barclay, whose recent theatre work includes The Tempest and Twelfth Night (Sprite/York Theatre Royal) and Dead Dog at the Dry Cleaners and The Empire Builders (Pleasance Islington).

Stage Fright will be directed by Canal Cafe Theatre's Artistic Director Emma Taylor, whose previous work includes Lucky Stiff (Canal Cafe Theatre and Edinburgh Fringe) which was nominated for a What's On Stage People's Choice Award in 2003, Shamlet (Canal Cafe and Edinburgh Fringe), and David Mamet's The Shawl, at the Canal Cafe Theatre in 2008. Emma is the producer of comedy satire troupe News Revue and was named Theatre Person of the Year at the Fringe Report Awards in 2003.

The Canal Cafe Theatre, known for its high-quality comedy programming, has recently renewed its commitment to new writing in theatre with the appointment of a Writer in Residence, Bea Roberts (The Tale of Lady Stardust, The Darkling Plain). Stage Fright follows a production of Lads, a new play from James Kermack.
