One and the Same at District Fringe

One and the Same is an original play that is being performed as a staged reading at the District Fringe festival in D.C. It’s a queer reimagining of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (in other words: gay fanfiction).

Synopsis:

Viola washes ashore in the foreign country of Illyria, where her brother had intended to have her wed. He is gone—swallowed by the sea—but she is discovered and taken in by the grieving lady Olivia. They take an immediate liking to each other, causing jealousies to flare at court. Meanwhile, Sebastian—not dead, but rescued by a handsome sailor—has to dress as a lady in order to reach the Count Orsino, who is starting to wonder why his betrothed Olivia is ignoring his bumbling missives. And where has Sir Toby Belch been this entire time? Join us for a gay romp through an Elizabethan tale of mistaken and self-discovered identity.
