HSC Opening Concert: The Poets / Curators' Choice / Telling Our Story at First Congregational United Church of Christ

The Heritage Signature Chorale launches its 27th season exploring the connection between poetry, history, storytelling, and music, featuring the Heritage Signature Chorale, HSC Chamber Singers, HSC Chamber Orchestra, and vocal soloists led by artistic director Stanley J. Thurston. The program presents music by Black composers including Clarence Cameron White, Margaret Bonds, Adolphus Hailstork, Moses Hogan, Kirke Mechem, and Ulysses Kay. Highlights include the modern-day world premiere of Clarence Cameron White's cantata Heritage: A Musical Statement, newly edited by Michael Cooper, and the Washington, DC premiere of Adolphus Hailstork's Paul Laurence Dunbar: Common Ground, combining Dunbar's poetry with Hailstork's music and narration by Herbert Woodward Martin.
