If a boy falls in love with another boy in the forest, but the boy is actually a girl dressed as a boy so she doesn't get sacrificed to Neptune, but the other boy is ALSO a girl dressed as a boy so SHE doesn't get sacrificed to Neptune, and unbeknownst to them they're both the subject of some Cupid-Venus-Diana god trickery, and in the end both of them are fine with one of them ACTUALLY becoming a boy if it means they can be together forever... is it really gay? Galatea by John Lyly is a pastoral comedy that explores themes of love, gender identity, and fate. Set in a mythical world, the story follows two young women, Galatea and Phillida, whose fathers disguise them as boys to protect them from being sacrificed to Neptune.
