Twins Jazz Club Presents Vocalist Whitney James 11/4-5

By:

Twins Jazz Club is set to welcome Vocalist Whitney James on Fri., Nov. 04 & Sat., Nov. 05 for 9pm & 11pm sets.

Expressive jazz artist Whitney James brings her supple, smoky voice and engaging interpretations to D.C.'s historic U Street jazz club, Twins, on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5. Fans of first-rate, genuine jazz vocals will be delighted to catch this intriguing artist as she swings through the capital on her Northeast tour.
Dividing her time between New York and Florida, James applies an instrumentalist's precise command of phrasing, melody, and timbre to an ambitious program of jazz standards. Her debut album, The Nature of Love (Stir Stick Music, 2010), earned rave reviews in U.S. jazz publications such as DownBeat.

Her CD made a strong impression on the international jazz press: French magazine Jazzman honored it with its highest ranking. Raul d'Gama Rose at All About Jazz praised her for her commanding vocal technique: "James makes wonderful things happen as she explores, with warmth and wonder, both the quiet and the wild side of the human voice."

At Twins she'll perform songs from the CD as well as newer material. Audiences will be thrilled to hear her reinventions on classics such as "How Deep Is the Ocean" and "Whisper Not." She will be accompanied by D.C. heavyweights Frank Russo on drums and Tom Baldwin on bass, as well as her longtime collaborator, the New York-based Joshua Wolff, on piano. The show is sponsored by the New York Connection which presents New York artists in mid-Atlantic and other venues.
