Signature Theatre to Host 2015 Open House Next Month

Virginia's Signature Theatre opens its doors for its annual Open House on Sunday, August 2, for an all-day extravaganza full of live performances and arts events across five different stages. Free and open to the public, this special summer event runs from noon until 8:30pm, with numerous performances throughout the Signature complex starting every fifteen minutes, as well as a one-day-only discounted ticket sale at the Box Office for select performances of mainstage shows in Signature's 2015/16 season.

The Open House offers something for everyone: live performances, demonstrations, master classes, exclusive conversations with artists, the debut of the Signature Voice Competition, a special Cake Off - Cake Decorating Competition, a Broadway on the Plaza grand finale, and much more. Events are held throughout the building as well as outdoors on the Shirlington Plaza, where families will find a moon bounce, popcorn, snow cones, crafts, and more - all for free.

Inside, the Season Highlights Concert will feature exclusive sneak-peek performances from Signature's upcoming 2015/16 season including performances from West Side Story and La Cage Aux Folles. The Signature Voice Competition boasts a celebrity panel of judges including Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, NBC4 News Anchor Wendy Reiger and Signature favorite Nova Y. Payton. The winning contestant will perform in the Broadway on the Plaza finale concert later in the evening.

During the Open House patrons can also purchase discounted tickets for select performances of mainstage shows throughout the season. These special ticket prices are only available on the day of Open House. The Box Office will be open from noon until 8:30pm. Featured artists who will be performing throughout the day include Mark Evans (The Book of Mormon, First National Tour) from the cast of Signature's upcoming production of The Fix, Desi Oakley (Broadway's Wicked), Helen Hayes Award-winning Signature ladies Natascia Diaz, Sherri Edelen, Tracy Lynn Olivera and Nova Y. Payton, the infectious New Orleans-style band Junkyard Saints, the gypsy swing ensemble The Bitter Dose Combo, The Army Chorus and more.

CAKE OFF - CAKE DECORATING CONTEST

Star of Signature Theatre's world premiere musical Cake Off, Sherri Edelen, will lead a Cake Decorating competition. Judges will include the creative team behind Signature's world premiere musical.

No tickets required. Sign up to compete begins at 2:30pm in front of the Shen. All decorating supplies provided. There will be 8 teams. Each team can include no more than 2 people. Contestants will be given a theme at the start of the competition.

JUNKYARD SAINTS

Junkyard Saints is a DC/Baltimore based seven-piece band with full horn section performing its own brand of New Orleans-style party music by blending Funk, Swing, Latin and R&B - with a splash of Zydeco to round out the mix.
