Signature Theatre Launches 25th Anniversary Mini-Documentary Series

Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre has released the first in a series of mini-documentaries exploring Signature's 25 year history. Each month throughout the 2014/2015 season, Signature Theatre will release in-depth interviews with artists that helped bring Signature Theatre to the forefront of the American theatre.

Eric Schaeffer, Norm Lewis, Marc Kudisch, Nick Blaemire, Matthew Scott, Donna Migliaccio, Matthew Gardiner, Adam Gwon, Paul Downs Colaizzo, John Dempsey, Dana Rowe, Eleasha Gamble, Erin Driscoll, Tracy Lynn Olivera, Steven Cupo and more will be featured throughout the series.

Signature Theatre was founded in Arlington, Virginia in 1989. In 2007, after many successful years of operating in a renovated auto garage, Signature moved into a dramatic new building that serves as a cultural anchor of the vibrant urban Arlington location Shirlington Village. Since the move, Signature has attracted scores of patrons to the Theatre. Signature attracts more than 86,000 patrons each season, increasingly gaining recognition as one of the Nation's best regional theaters.

Recipient of the 2009 Regional Theatre Tony Award, Signature Theatre is a non-profit professional theater company in Arlington, Virginia dedicated to producing contemporary musicals and plays, reinventing classic musicals, and developing new work. Under the leadership of co-founder and Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer and Managing Director Maggie Boland, Signature has presented 43 world premiere productions and is renowned for combining Broadway-quality productions with intimate playing spaces.

In addition to hosting the finest talent from the DC metropolitan area and New York, Signature has been home to such theater luminaries as Chita Rivera, Christine Lahti, George Hearn, Hunter Foster, Emily Skinner, Ann Reinking, Marc Kudisch, Judy Kuhn, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Cameron Mackintosh, Terrence McNally, and the company's signature composer, Stephen Sondheim. Since its founding in 1989, Signature has won 90 Helen Hayes Awards for excellence in the Washington, DC region's professional theater and has been honored with 360 nominations.

Signature is partially supported by a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts and by a gift from the Arlington Cultural Affairs Division of Arlington Economic Development and the Arlington Commission for the Arts.
