Shakespeare Theatre Hosts Free Open Rehearsals for STRANGE INTERLUDE, March 17

By:

If you've never had the opportunity to see a rehearsal of a play, Washington's Shakespeare Theatre Company is offering two free open rehearsals for Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude on Saturday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Sidney Harman Hall.

The play, directed by Artistic Director Michael Kahn, runs March 27 to April 29.

The Pulitzer-Prize-winning drama is about love and deception. One of O'Neill's early plays, it was hailed as revolutionary and shocked 1928 audiences and became a smash hit.

The cast includes Francesca Faridany, Rachel Spencer Hewitt, Tana Hicken, TEd Koch, Jake Land, Joe Short, Robert Stanton, Baylen Thomas, and Ted Van Griethuysen.

Other free upcoming events include:

"Windows on Stange Interlude", Sunday, April 1,  from 5 - 6 p.m.
Join STC's Artistic Staff and a guest scholar as they provide a "window" into the production during a pre-show discussion.

"Diving O'Neill", Wednesday, April 4 from 5 - 6 p.m. Explor the play's relevance from a theological perspective.

"Post-Performance Discussion" Wednesday, April 4 after the performance. STC's Literary Associate Drew Lichtenberg will lead a discussion.

"Classics in Context" Saturday, April 21 5-6 p.m. STC's Director of Education, Samantha K. Wyer lead a panel discussion.

Another event to consider is "Asides LIVE" April 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join an in-depth conversation with Artistic Director Michael Kahn and scholars Robert Combs, Jackson Bryer, Yvonne Shafer and Christopher Lee.

Also currently at the STC is Petrushka by Basil Twist featuring Irina and Julia Elkina through March 25. This is a two-piano version of Stravinsky's ballet. Nine Hidden Puppeteers use a combination of Czech and Japanese techniques to bring the story to life.  The performance opens with an abstract fantasia of puppetry, set to Stravinsky's Sonata for Two Pianos.
